The NFL is really having a hard time finding a team for Hard Knocks.
The NFL could have a tough time finding a team for “Hard Knocks” this year, and that’s because the four teams eligible to be on the show this year really do not have interest in being on the show, which is why it has taken so long for the league to announce the team for this year.
The NFL calendar has now hit mid-June and the league still hasn’t made an announcement about which team will be getting the “Hard Knocks” treatment this year.
Now, it appears a surprise team could be back on it again.
The Detroit News reported that after the Detroit Lions participated in the Hard Knocks last season and NFL Films would love to showcase them again in 2023.
“Report: NFL Films reached out to the #Lions to do ‘Hard Knocks’ for the second consecutive season, per @detroitnews.
“The NFL is apparently struggling to find a team willing to do Hard Knocks this season. They can force the #Jets, #Saints, #Commanders or #Bears to do it but they’re facing resistance from those teams.”

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the “Hard Knocks” formula, a team doesn’t have to be on the show if ANY of the three rules below applies to them:
- They have a first-year head coach in place.
- They have a playoff berth in the past two seasons.
- They have appeared on “Hard Knocks” in the past 10 years.
It does not look like the Lions want to be part of this, so one of the four teams will just have to be unhappy as they will get chosen to do the show whether they like it or not.
The Lions were a popular team last year on the show and they had a good year as they finished the year strong with a 9-8 record. They are looking to be even better, so they could do without distractions.
