It’s been a long time coming, but the wishes of Pittsburgh Steelers fans were finally granted this morning when the team announced that they have fired offensive coordinator Matt Canada.
Nothing against Canada as a person. He seems like a good dude. But his inability to turn the Steelers’ offense into a competent unit had placed a massive target on his back among the black & yellow’s fanbase.
Steelers fans had been calling for Canada’s firing all year long. And finally, after the team’s latest underwhelming performance (during a 13-10 loss to the Browns in week 11), Mike Tomlin and company finally decided it was time to stop defending Canada’s performance and move on.
Not surprisingly, there was plenty of rejoicing on social media following the announcement.

The Steelers’ offense currently ranks 28th in the NFL in both yards and point per game, with 280.1 and 16.6, respectively. Second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett has been especially disappointing, failing to throw for more than 235 yards in any of his 10 starts this season. He also has just one game with multiple touchdowns, having thrown just six TD passes to four interceptions on the season.
We’ll see if some fresh blood at the offensive coordinator position can help the Steelers’ offense get out of this rut.
