For football fans, few lists cause as much debate as NFL quarterback rankings.
Well NFL Network’s Adam Rank managed to get the debate going again with questionable rankings on the NFC’s top five quarterbacks. Rank, a well-known fan of the Chicago Bears, had Justin Fields atop the list.
Fields was followed by Jalen Hurts (Philadelphia Eagles), Dak Prescott (Dallas Cowboys), Kirk Cousins (Minnesota Vikings) and Derek Carr (New Orleans Saints).
With all due respect to Rank and Fields, it’s very difficult to make a case that the 2021 first-round pick is the top quarterback in the NFC. So you can probably guess how a plethora of football fans reacted to Rank’s list.

Hurts was far-and-away the best quarterback in the NFC last season. The 2020 second-round pick completed 66.5 percent of pass attempts for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns against six interceptions to go along with 760 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns.
Fields completed 60.4 percent of his pass attempts last season for 2,242 yards and 17 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. He was more dynamic as a rusher, finishing with 1,143 yards and eight touchdowns despite missing two games.
But Fields obviously could only do so much on football’s worst team with a small supporting cast. He absolutely has the ability to be a top-five NFC quarterback in short time, but it’s definitely hard to place him above the likes of Kyler Murray (Arizona Cardinals) and Geno Smith (Seattle Seahawks). One could even make the case for Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers.
