Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and Super Bowl 57 MVP Patrick Mahomes fired up the fans during the team’s Super Bowl parade on Wednesday when he made a “rebuilding” comment.
Much of NFL Twitter, on the other hand, didn’t exactly understand what Mahomes was talking about.
With the microphone in his hands, Mahomes scoffed at suggestions that the Chiefs “were rebuilding” entering the 2022 season. The 27-year-old and two-time Super Bowl champion told Chiefs fans he doesn’t “know what rebuilding means…In our rebuilding year, we’re world champs.”
Plenty of NFL fans on Twitter simply scoffed at Mahomes’ mention of the word “rebuild”. After all, Kansas City was still one of the top favorites to win Super Bowl 57 heading into the 2022 season.

The Chiefs’ biggest changes from the offseason came at wide receiver. They traded away wideout Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins following a contract dispute and wound up signing deep threat Marquez Valdes-Scantling and slot receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster in free agency. GM Brett Veach also used a second-round pick on Skyy Moore out of Western Michigan.
In defeating the Philadelphia Eagles, the Chiefs now find themselves just one more championship away with the Mahomes-Andy Reid-led group from cementing dynasty status. Kansas City will aim to become the first team to repeat as Super Bowl champions since the 2004 New England Patriots.
