There’s some concerning news regarding former New England Patriots’ quarterback Matt Corral.
On Saturday, the Patriots signed backup Bailey Zappe (who was surprisingly waived on Aug. 29) to their roster. Zappe was later signed back to the practice squad, and Corral was claimed by the Pats off waivers from the Carolina Panthers.
According to Henry McKenna of FOX Sports, Corral was absent from the Patriots’ practice on Friday for reasons unknown.
“He just left the team,” a source told McKenna. “Let’s just make sure he’s OK. I don’t know if it’s mental health. I just know he kind of flaked out…Let’s be careful this guy doesn’t get thrown to the wolves.”
The NFL world came together to offer prayers and messages of support for Corral.

Corral unfortunately missed his entire rookie year in 2022 because of a Lisfranc injury. Given Carolina’s major struggles at QB last year, it’s safe to assume that Corral would have gotten a look at the starting job last year.
We’ll be sure to provide updates when they become available. We sincerely hope that Corral is alright and getting the love and support that he’s deserving of.
Before he was drafted in the third round by the Panthers a year ago, Corral courageously and publicly opened up about his struggles with alcoholism and his battles with depression.
