Kyler Murray made headlines on Friday with his pregame outfit on Friday night, with some fans not knowing that his attire is worn frequently by athletes.
Murray is still recovering from surgery on a torn ACL he suffered against the New England Patriots last December. He watched the Cardinals’ first preseason game against the Denver Broncos from the sidelines, with Arizona emerging victorious 18-17.
Murray’s outfit prior to kickoff went viral, with football fans (once again) having some hilarious reactions on Twitter:

But as some other fans pointed out, this is a catapult sensor that is actually worn by many other athletes. It’s especially popular in soccer and is said to carry ten times the amount of data points that Apple Watches carry.
Also, this isn’t the first time Murray has been seen wearing a catapult sensor. He also had one one during an episode of HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series, as you can see in the tweet below:
But this is NFL Twitter, where fans will often jump to making jokes without doing their homework. If Murray is going to be mocked for wearing one, so be it. There’s a reason why the technology is being used heavily in the sporting world.
It’s still unclear when exactly Murray will return to action. The Cardinals will open their 2023 season with a road contest against the Washington Commanders on Sept. 10.
