NFL fans are poking fun at the @NFLOnFox Twitter account following a tweet about a desired “rivalry week.”
The Twitter account posted a graphic of 16 possible divisional showdowns, writing “We need a rivalry week in the NFL.”
But here’s a reminder: The final week of the regular season consists of ONLY divisional matchups. Fans simply get a large number of these matchups in any given final day of the NFL regular season.

The NFL decided to make the final week of the regular season all divisional matchups back in 2010, and it has stayed that way ever since. This has gone a long way in creating extra drama in division and playoff races, so it’s safe to say the NFL is going to retain this format for the long run.
The 2023 NFL season is slated to begin on Sept. 7, with the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs playing a to-be-determined opponent at Arrowhead Stadium. The regular season schedule will likely be released at some point in May.
What we do know is this: Fans will get “Rivalry Week” in Week 18 again when it’s only divisional showdowns.
