The Minnesota Vikings may need to replace Kirk Cousins this offseason and it’s not because they d not want him.
It’s been four months since Kirk Cousins ruptured his right Achilles and Cousins name is still one of the hottest in the league as far as available quarterbacks.
In order to keep Cousins from hitting unrestricted free agency, the Minnesota Vikings would have to have a deal worked out with him before the start of the new league year on March 13th.
Bill Barnwell of ESPN is no projecting that Cousins is going to command $51 million per season in his new deal from either the vikngs or another QB-starved team.
Via the report:
“Any team hoping to win over the next three years that isn’t in position to land one of the top starters in the 2024 draft should be trying to pursue Cousins. That’s a group that includes the Broncos, Buccaneers, Falcons, Raiders, Steelers and Titans, with the Dolphins and Seahawks as outside candidates if they move on from their current starters. Some of those teams will opt for longer shots in the draft, but if Cousins’ recovery is on track, he should be able to get one more significant deal as a 35-year-old free agent.
Average annual salary projection: $51 million per season”

When it comes to the regular season, there is no question that Kirk Cousins is one of the better QBs in the NFL. Over his 12 full seasons in the NFL, he has shown on multiple occasions that he is able to lead his team to victory and do so at a high level.
However, in the NFL, what you do in the regular season means very little if you cannot translate that success to the postseason. Cousins has built a reputation for not being able to show up in the biggest moments.
Cousins has played in five playoff games in his career and has a record of 1-4 in those games.
Somehow, some team out there will reward him handsomely for playing well in the regular season and not much else.
