NFL fans are getting a laugh over news about the incredibly small performance-based bonus Aaron Rodgers has received from the New York Jets.
On Tuesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Aaron Rodgers received a performance-based bonus of $81.14. And yes, you read that correctly — just barely over $81 dollars based on the performance-based system.
Here’s how Schefter explained it:
“The system rewards all NFL players based on their play time and base salary. If a player has a low base salary but plays a significant number of snaps, he earns more through the system. With Rodgers having the opposite — a high salary and playing just 0.33% of snaps due to his torn Achilles — his total amount came to $81.14.”
Aaron Rodgers unfortunately suffered an Achilles tear just minutes into his New York debut in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills. The four-time league MVP worked extensively to recover quickly and return to the field, but the team announced in late December that he wouldn’t return.
For comparison sake, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy received a lucrative $739,795 bonus after leading his team to a Super Bowl 58 appearance, where they narrowly fell to the Kansas City Chiefs.

News of Rodgers’ incredibly low $81.14 performance-based bonus led to plenty of hysterical reactions from fans on X/Twitter:
Ahead of last year’s NFL Draft, the Jets acquired Aaron Rodgers in a blockbuster trade with the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers’ arrival brought plenty of optimism for a long-struggling New York franchise, but their dream season quickly went down the drain after his injury.
But GM Joe Douglas has been awfully busy improving the offense for his star QB. He signed former Los Angeles Chargers star wide receiver Mike Williams and brought in three new starting offensive linemen in Tyron Smith, John Simpson and Morgan Moses.
Aaron Rodgers’ Return Makes The Jets Contenders
In a way, it’s rather impressive that the Jets won seven games last year in a tough division despite needing to use three different quarterbacks in Zach Wilson, Trevor Siemian and Tim Boyle after Rodgers’ season-ending injury.
If Rodgers is healthy, the Jets will be Super Bowl contenders. He’s got a nice set of weapons in Williams, Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard and Breece Hall plus the support of a borderline top-10 defense.
