NFL Fans were rejoicing upon hearing that tonight will mark Al Michaels’ return to the NBC broadcast booth for coverage of the AFC Wild Card battle between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The celebration was short-lived, however, as those same NFL fans couldn’t have been more disappointed after hearing who he’ll be joined by in the booth.
Al Michaels and Cris Colinsworth became quite the duo during their time together at NBC. Unfortunately, they were forced to break up when Michaels made the move to Amazon Prime for this year’s coverage of Thursday Night Football.
When it was revealed that Michaels—who maintains an emeritus role at NBC—would be coming back for Saturday night’s game, everyone was hoping they would be teaming him up with his old pal, Cris…
So you could imagine the disappointment when they learned it would be former coach Tony Dungy by Michaels’ side, instead.
Michaels worked with Kirk Herbstreit this year on TNF, while Collinsworth was partnered with Mike Tirico at NBC. The latter two will be providing commentary for Sunday night’s game between the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals.
