Fans had plenty of reason to ask what the hell was going on after a male individual was spotted standing behind Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy holding a cell phone and appearing to record his playbook during Thursday night’s clash vs. the Commanders.
To add to the suspicion, the phone was inside of a Commanders case.
There was some speculation over Commanders head coach Ron Rivera possibly cheating, though it would have been the most useless bit of dishonesty as the Bears went on to win their first game in nearly a year.
Fortunately, the NFL has quelled the chatter with an explanation, informing Pro Football Talk that the individual in question was a uniform inspector assigned to the game.
“It was one of the two uniform inspectors assigned to the game, Ravin Caldwell,” chief NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told the publication.
As it turns out, Caldwell played for Washington in the late 80s and early 90s while the other inspector on the night, Ricky Ervins, played there from 1991-1994 as well.

This could have caused some controversy for the league, so it’s great that they nipped in the bud even if the Commanders never had any advantage during the game.
