Even though the New York Jets won’t make any official declarations until after the season, it feels as if the New York Jets will be parting ways with Zach Wilson after the year is done.
The No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft would seem to have virtually no trade value at this point because of his terrible play on the field.
ESPN Jeremy Fowler’s latest conversation with an NFL executive shows the franchise will do what they can send him shipping out. An NFL executive claims the Jets will do “everything possible” to trade Wilson in the offseason.
“I think they do everything possible to trade him — but I think they wait until maybe even the preseason or into the regular season to get his value up,” an NFC executive told Fowler. “There’s nothing right now that says a team wants the Zach Wilson experiment and will trade a draft pick for him. But it could be a Baker Mayfield-type situation [with the Rams] where a team has injuries at the position and needs a spot starter.”
An anonymous NFL coordinator added, “His confidence is shot, and he’s not seeing it [on the field].”
For the year, Wilson has thrown for 1,688 yards with six touchdowns and seven interceptions. He has only completed 54.5 percent of his passes this season. The second-year quarterback struggled as New York lost 20-17 to the Detroit Lions in Week 15 and 19-3 to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 16.

In the meantime, the New York Jets’ playoff hopes rest on the shoulders of Mike White. The QB has been cleared by doctors and will start Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field.
White, who’s been recovering from broken ribs, missed the last two games, forcing the Jets to turn back to Wilson.
The New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, Las Vegas Raiders, and Tennessee Titans all lost on Christmas weekend, leaving the door open for New York to capture an AFC playoff spot.
The Jets will advance to the postseason if they win both of their two remaining games and the Patriots lose one of their final two games.
