It’s a hard life out there for running backs in the NFL.
Not too many teams in the league want to invest a ton of money in the position these days and running backs are finding it harder to stick around while still being in their prime.
Dalvin Cook is looking for his new team, and according to Tom Pelissero, he wants a big deal from his new team.
“Dalvin Cook…is not coming in for $4 or $5 million,” Pelissero said during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show. “That is not going to happen. This is going to be a significant contract.”
One anonymous NFL executive dropped a major truth bomb this week about running backs looking for big deals and that includes Cook, Saquon Barkley, and Josh Jacobs.
Cook is coming off reconstructive shoulder surgery and is entering his age-28 season and things are not looking good for him securing a lucrative deal based on history. The Vikings never offered him a pay cut prior to his release and they could not find a trade partner either.

Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants, Josh Jacobs of the Las Vegas Raiders, and Tony Pollard of the Dallas Cowboys all received the $10.09 million franchise tag, with Barkley and Jacobs being the only two to not sign their tag with hopes of securing a big deal.
Jacobs has no immediate plans to report to the Las Vegas Raiders without a long-term contract in place. The Raiders used the franchise tag on Jacobs back in March. The two sides now have until July 17 to negotiate a long-term extension.
Jacobs led the NFL with 1,653 rushing yards last season. The franchise tag would pay him just north of $10 million, which is $6 million less than what Christian McAffrey makes with the San Francisco 49ers.
The running back position is now viewed the same way it used to be and that presents a problem for players trying to cash in.
