One of the main NFL storylines right now revolves around New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who may or may not hit the open market in the coming days.
Owner Robert Kraft is expected to make a decision on the legendary head coach’s future in the coming days. Many believe Kraft will decide on a change following a 4-13 finish that marked New England’s worst record since 1992.
If Belichick ends up being let go by the Patriots? Obviously, teams with coach openings like the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Washington Commanders and Los Angeles Chargers make sense as landing spots.
But one NFL executive told Mike Sando of The Athletic that they view a top NFC club as a “sleeper” for Bill Belichick. That team? The NFC East champion Dallas Cowboys, who just tallied their third straight 12-win season:
“Belichick to Dallas is my sleeper,” the executive told Sando, “but I’d make Atlanta the odds-on favorite for Bill, and the Chargers the odds-on favorite for Harbaugh.”
There is speculation that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will fire head coach Mike McCarthy if the team fails to go on a deep playoff run. The Cowboys are 1-2 in the playoffs under McCarthy and haven’t reached the NFC Championship Game since 1995, the franchise’s last Super Bowl-winning season.

It’s not exactly clear what Belichick would look for in another team if he left the Patriots. But if Dallas were to fire McCarthy, the 71-year-old Belichick might be fascinated by the chance to coach a historic organization that’s built to win now.
For now, we continue to await Kraft’s announcement on Belichick’s future.
