The Green Bay Packers continue to await a decision from quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who has three options on the table: a) Return b) Seek a trade or c) Retire.
Rodgers hasn’t given a timeline on a decision for his future in football. Until he announces it, the four-time league MVP will continue to dominate the NFL trade rumor mill. Rodgers signed a three-year contract extension worth $150.8 million with the Packers last offseason.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler spoke to several NFL league executives to get their predictions on offseason player movements. One NFC coordinator explained why they think the New York Jets make sense as a landing spot for the future Hall of Famer:
“That receiving corps is really talented and you know the defense is good. They have pieces and are trending up. They should be desperate to get a QB in my opinion.”
Another executive from the NFC explained to Fowler that they could see the Indianapolis Colts making a play for Rodgers:
“[Indianapolis general manager Chris] Ballard has to get one [a quarterback] and get it right. Maybe they just draft one and save the money, but Rodgers would be different than their other past stopgap options because he’s more of a sure thing.”
Many expect the Jets to move on from Zach Wilson, the No. 2 pick of the 2021 Draft, after an uninspiring sophomore year. As for the Colts, they’re sure to replace Matt Ryan as the starter following the worst season of his career.
