Aaron Rodgers’ Green Bay Packers are far from the only NFL team that has played well below expectations through six weeks, but they are arguably the biggest disappointment up to this point.
After losing their first game to the Minnesota Vikings, the Packers rebounded with three straight wins. This included a convincing 14-12 road victory over Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3.
But the Packers proceeded to lose each of their next two games, both as a heavy favorite. They fell 27-22 to the New York Giants in London and then got embarrassed 27-10 at Lambeau Field by the New York Jets.
Jason La Canfora of The Washington Post spoke to multiple executives for their takes on Rodgers’ struggles. One evaluator told La Canfora the following:
“They can’t get anything going on offense and it almost looks like he doesn’t want to be there. It’s like he’s almost too willing to give up on a play.”
One league general manager told La Canfora that the Packers “created a monster”, and opined that the Packers should have traded the four-time MVP.
“He’s got a voice in personnel now, or at least he thinks he does…That could get really ugly. They should have traded him when they had the chance, and they’re stuck with him now, whether he really wants to be there or not. (And this is) after everything they’ve gone through since they took Jordan Love, and that was when they were winning 13 games a year and he was playing like an MVP. They are in serious (expletive) now.”

Rodgers requested a trade from the Packers ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft. The San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders were said to be on Rodgers’ wish list, but Green Bay never budged.
The future Hall of Famer eventually decided to return to Green Bay for the 2021 season. After winning his fourth MVP award, Rodgers signed a lucrative three-year contract extension worth $150.8 million.
Rodgers has obviously struggled without longtime No. 1 receiver Davante Adams, who was traded to the Raiders in the offseason. Through six games, the 38-year-old has a completion percentage of 67.0 for 1,403 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions.
The Packers are two games behind Minnesota for the lead in the NFC North, but they do have a manageable schedule the rest of the way. Green Bay will look to avoid a three-game losing skid when they visit the Washington Commanders this Sunday.
