The Dallas Cowboys could be targeting one of the marquee prospects in next week’s NFL draft.
Dallas holds the No. 26 selection in next week’s draft, which will run Apr. 27-29 in Kansas City, Missouri. According to ESPN’s Todd McShay, however, it would not be a surprise if Jerry Jones and company moved up for a specific player.
Appearing on “The Dan Patrick Show” (h/t Todd Brock of Cowboys Wire), McShay reported that America’s Team “is obsessed with” finding a running back to help Tony Pollard. As such, McShay wouldn’t be shocked if Dallas moved up for Texas Longhorns RB Bijan Robinson:
“Dallas is obsessed with getting a running back that can be their guy, be a complement to Tony Pollard, like they had with Zeke when Zeke was closer to his prime. Mike McCarthy is dying for a big power back like that, wants to run the football. They want to be a run-based team, and they would love to bring the Texas star into Dallas and make him the star of their offense
“Dallas is sitting at 26. It wouldn’t shock me if they made a splash, jumped up into the teens, ahead of teams like Detroit and the Chargers and went and got Bijan, maybe around 14, 15, 16.”
Last month, the Cowboys placed the franchise tag on Pollard (their 2022 rushing leader) and cut Elliott in a cap-saving move. Pollard led Dallas with 1,007 rushing yards last season, and Dallas had until July 17 to reach an extension with him.
For what it’s worth, Cowboys executive vice president and director of player personnel Stephen Jones wouldn’t rule out the idea of taking Robinson.

Robinson is widely considered the best running back prospect since Penn State product Saquon Barkley, who went second overall to the New York Giants in 2018. Robinson racked up 1,580 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns to go along with 314 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
For what it’s worth, Cowboys executive vice president and director of player personnel Stephen Jones wouldn’t rule out the idea of taking Robinson.
The Cowboys are coming off a second straight 12-win season. They eliminated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Super Wild Card Weekend before falling to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional Round.
Robinson will be the first running back taken in next week’s draft. The only question is which team will come away with the most talented RB prospect in half a decade.
