The NFL’s second in-season head coaching change could happen in the coming days.
Speculation is ramping up that the Washington Commanders will soon fire Ron Rivera amid another tough season. The Commanders (4-7) visit the Dallas Cowboys in the second Thanksgiving Thursday game.
Chris Simms said on PFT Live that if Washington didn’t have a short week, Rivera could’ve been fired on Monday. Simms, Pro Football Talk colleague, Mike Florio, added that folks in league circles expect a change:
“(Washington owner Josh)Harris has not tipped his hand publicly. The feeling in league circles is that major changes are coming for the Commanders. The question is when will they start?
The answer could be as soon as tomorrow, especially if the Commanders end up losing by three or four scores to a Dallas team that, when it wins, usually wins by three or four scores.”
“Riverboat Ron” is in his fourth season with the Commanders. He’s gone 26-34-1 as their head coach, failing to record a winning season in DC up to this point.
