NFL fans are calling for the Atlanta Falcons to make a coaching change following Sunday’s Week 9 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
Atlanta entered Sunday as a slim 3.5-point favorite over the Vikings, who started rookie quarterback Jaren Hall a week after Kirk Cousins suffered a torn Achilles. Hall, however, had to leave the game in the first quarter after suffering a concussion.
That prompted the Vikings to play journeyman QB Josh Dobbs, whom they had only acquired via trade with the Arizona Cardinals five days earlier. Despite having precious little time to learn the Vikings’ system, Dobbs looked like a seasoned veteran and threw a game-winning score to Brandon Powell in the waning seconds.
The loss, Atlanta’s fifth in seven games, dropped them to 4-5 on the year. That prompted a plethora of calls from fans for the Falcons to fire head coach Arthur Smith:

Smith is in his third year as Atlanta’s head coach. Much of the criticism towards him relates to the questionable usage of rookie running back Bijan Robinson, whom the Falcons chose with the No. 8 pick in this year’s draft.
Atlanta gave Robinson just 11 carries in Sunday’s loss, yet he still finished with more rushing yards (51) than Tyler Allgeier, who had just 39 yards on 12 carries.
The Falcons, now one game behind the New Orleans Saints for first in the NFC South, will visit the one-win Arizona Cardinals this Sunday. Perhaps a loss to football’s worst team will prompt GM Terry Fontenot to make a change.
