The NFL has made an announcement on the final game of the 2022 regular season.
On Monday afternoon, the league announced that the Detroit Lions-Green Bay Packers Week 18 game at Lambeau Field will be played on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” program. This will be the last game of the 2022 regular season schedule before the playoffs begin on Jan. 14
The final NFL playoff field will not be set until after this game. If the Packers defeat the Lions, they’ll clinch a playoff spot. Detroit needs a win plus a Seattle Seahawks loss or tie against the Los Angeles Rams to lock down the conference’s final playoff berth.
If Seattle suffers a loss or a tie, the Packers-Lions game will be a win-or-go-home game for both clubs. If the Seahawks win, then the Lions are automatically eliminated. The final playoff spot in the NFC would then come down to Seattle and Green Bay.
A Week 12 road loss to the Philadelphia Eagles dropped the Packers to 4-8 on the season, and their playoff hopes appeared to be completely done for. But Rodgers has led the Packers to four straight wins to keep their postseason hopes alive.
Green Bay needed at least one loss from the Washington Commanders over the final two weeks to have a shot at the playoffs. The Commanders fell 24-10 at home to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, thus eliminating Ron Rivera’s club from postseason contention.

Like Green Bay, Detroit also looked completely done for earlier in the season. A Week 8 road loss to the Miami Dolphins dropped the Lions to 1-6 on the season, but they have since rallied with victories in seven of their last nine games.
Elsewhere, the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars will meet on Saturday to determine the winner of the division crown. If the Cincinnati Bengals lose to the Buffalo Bills on Monday night, the Bengals-Baltimore Ravens Week 18 game will determine the AFC North winner.
