A well-known NFL analyst is calling for the league to make changes geared toward player safety, following injuries to two star players during the Divisional Round of the postseason.
On Saturday, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain while getting tackled by Corey Peters and Arden Key of the Jaguars. Key’s knee went into Mahomes ankle, and the likely 2022 MVP window briefly had to leave the game.
In Sunday’s Divisional Round Game against the San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys star running back Tony Pollard suffered a fractured fibula while being tackled by safety Jimmie Ward. The 49ers went on to win 19-12 and will play the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game.
In a Twitter thread, popular NFL analyst Warren Sharp explained why the league should discuss “hip drop tackles” which would help cut back on injuries like the ones Mahomes and Pollard suffered.
Mahomes managed to finish the game for the Chiefs, who went on to defeat Jacksonville 27-20 to book a trip to the AFC Championship Game. Kansas City will host the Cincinnati Bengals in the big game for the second straight year.
