Last week, we found out that Patrick Mahomes will become the highest paid professional athlete in history, with his new deal that exceeds $503 million. He clearly deserves it as the past two seasons prove that he will be worth it in the future.
Unlike Mahomes new contract, not every huge contract given out is good and a lot of players end up being way overpaid.
CBS Sports‘ John Breech ranked the 10 most overpaid players in the league right now and his results ended with the No. 1 spot being taken by a member of the New York Giants.
Here’s the list:
10. Olivier Vernon, DE (Browns)
9. Leonard Fournette, RB (Jaguars)

8. A.J. Green, WR (Bengals)
7. Alshon Jeffery, WR (Eagles)
6. David Johnson, RB (Texans)
5. Jared Goff, QB (Rams)
“If the Rams had a time machine, the first thing they’d probably do with it is go back and undo Jared Goff’s contract. Goff isn’t necessarily a bad quarterback, he just hasn’t shown that he’s worth the money that the Rams gave him.”
4. Le’Veon Bell, RB (Jets)
“When the Jets gave Le’Veon Bell a four-year, $52.5 million deal last season, they were probably hoping that they’d get more than 3.2 yards per carry out of him..”
3. Malcolm Butler, CB (Titans)
2. Jacoby Brissett, QB (Colts)
1.Nate Solder, LT (Giants)
“Solder has been so bad that he might actually go down as one of the free agent busts in NFL history,” Breech writes. “If you watched any highlights of the Giants from 2019, you may have noticed that Daniel Jones was almost always running for his life.”
Solder was blamed for 11 sacks last season, per Pro Football Focus.
Jacoby Brissett and Jared Goff are the only quarterbacks to make the list.
