Some shocking new information has recently surfaced about the neck injury that NFL great Peyton Manning suffered back in 2006 that required multiple surgeries. His former coach in Indianapolis, Tony Dungy, has pin-pointed the play which he believes caused the injury.
This was definitely a dangerous and dirty hit by Washington Defensive End Phillip Daniels, but what makes it even more disturbing is the fact that Gregg Williams was the Defensive Coordinator at the time this play occurred.
Williams is most notably known for being the Defensive Coordinator in New Orleans during the BountyGate scandal, where defensive players were given cash if they successfully injured the offensive stars on the opposing team. For his role, Williams was suspended indefinitely by the NFL. Many believe he ran a similar type incentive to injure scheme while with Washington.
Although Manning went on to win another two MVP’s and two Superbowls after this hit, it definitely had an impact on the longevity of his career.
After finding out Gregg Williams was the likely cause for injuring Manning, many fans took to Twitter and voiced their displeasure towards him.
