For Thanksgiving 2023, NFL fans will get to enjoy football on back-to-back weekdays.
On Tuesday afternoon, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the NFL will play a game on “Black Friday”, the day after American Thanksgiving 2023 on Prime Video. Rapoport added that the “expected kick off” time is 3:00 p.m. EST.
The Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints played a Friday night game on Christmas Day 2020, with New Orleans winning soundly 52-33. That day, Alvin Kamara finished with six rushing touchdowns, matching a single-game record.
The NFL runs three games annually on Thanksgiving every year. The Detroit Lions always host the early afternoon game, and the Dallas Cowboys host the second tilt. The third matchup changes every year.
This year’s 2022 NFL Thanksgiving games will see the Buffalo Bills visit Detroit, the New York Giants at Dallas and the New England Patriots visiting Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings.
Prime Video became one of the NFL’s broadcast partners beginning this year with the Thursday Night Football package. Amazon took over the games for FOX Sports, which aired TNF from 2018 up until last season. The NFL’s other broadcast partners are CBS, FOX, NBC (the Sunday Night Football broadcasts) and ESPN/ABC (for Monday Night Football).

Legendary broadcaster Al Michaels and ESPN College GameDay host Kirk Herbstreit were hired by Amazon to call Thursday night games. Prime Video aired its first regular season game back in Week 2 on Sept. 15, with the Kansas City Chiefs defeating the Los Angeles Chargers 27-24.
The NFL doesn’t release the regular season schedule until late April or early May, so it’ll be a while until we learn of the Black Friday game special on Prime Video. But the bottom line is that Thanksgiving weekend 2023 just got a whole lot better for every football fan.
