One of the best wide receivers of his era is calling it quits.
On Monday, former Cincinnati Bengals and Arizona Cardinals wide receiver A.J. Green announced via social media that he is retiring from football.
Green was drafted fourth overall by the Bengals in 2011, in what turned out to be one of the NFL’s all-time great draft classes. Green earned Pro Bowl honors in each of his first seven NFL seasons, helping the Bengals to five playoff berths and two AFC North division titles.
Injuries unfortunately kept him out for seven games in 2018 as well as the entire 2019 season. Green stayed healthy in 2020 and finished with 47 receptions for 523 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Green signed with the Cardinals in 2021 and had a solid bounce-back campaign with his new team. Green caught 54 passes for 848 yards and three touchdowns, helping Arizona to a 12-win season and playoff berth.
In what turned out to be his final NFL season, Green caught 24 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns. The (likely) future Hall of Famer retires with 727 career receptions, 10,514 yards and 70 touchdowns.
