A prominent NFL agent is reportedly being investigated for allegedly bribing teams to pick his clients in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Citing sources, ESPN’s Brooke Pryor reports that the NFLPA is looking into allegations that David Canter offered vacation spots as bribes to teams who drafted the players he represents:
“The NFL Players Association is investigating agent David Canter for allegedly trying to entice teams to select players he represents during the NFL draft last month, sources told ESPN on Friday.
Canter, a longtime agent and the president of football at GSE Worldwide, allegedly contacted several teams throughout the NFL draft weekend offering the use of vacation properties belonging to him and his wife if the team drafted one of his clients, sources told ESPN. Sources described Canter’s actions as a “form of bribery.”
Adam Kenner, the attorney representing Canter, told ESPN that the agent did nothing wrong and “is fully cooperating with the NFLPA.” Kenner added that they expect the matter “to be resolved shortly.”
As noted by Pryor, possible consequences for Canter may include a suspension or fine. Canter also faces the possibility of losing his certificate as a player agent.
Some of Canter’s more well-known clients at the NFL level Carolina Panthers safety Vonn Bell, ex-New England Patriots standout linebacker Jamie Collins, Miami Dolphins Pro Bowl corner Xavien Howard, Indianapolis Colts kicker Matt Gay and Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence.
The 50-year–old Canter has been a certified NFLPA agent since 1997. Per the NFLPa’s official website, he has negotiated 37 NFL contracts.
