The NFL has admitted that the Washington Commanders should have gotten a pass interference call on their last offensive play against the New York Giants on Sunday.
The Commanders threw an incomplete pass on fourth-and-six with 56 seconds left in the fourth quarter of the game — Curtis Samuel was the target. Giants cornerback Darnay Holmes had his arms over Samuel’s shoulders but no flag was thrown and New York was able to hold on, kneeling twice to keep the score at 20-12 until the clock ran out.
“Pass interference is a judgment call,” referee John Hussey said in a pool report following the game. “To the officials, it didn’t rise to what they felt was a restriction, thus they didn’t call it. That’s basically the bottom line there.”
The NFL Says Refs Should Have Called A DPI
The league, however, believes otherwise and, per sources, has admitted that a foul should have been called. That would have left Washington with a final opportunity for a possible touchdown, plus a two-point conversion.
The Commanders were the victims of several controversial refereeing decisions on the night.
Two plays before, a one-yard touchdown rush was struck off due to an illegal penalty against Terry McLaurin, whom replays show even checked in with an official to make sure he was aligned properly.

Wide receiver Jahan Dotson was flagged for offensive pass interference during the third quarter which cost Washington a two-point conversion. They also missed the kick that followed so couldn’t even accrue a point on the play.
