At least one NFL team reportedly has significant interest in landing Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh in the next hiring cycle.
Speaking on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd”, NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports that the Chicago Bears are” very interested in” Harbaugh.
“Jim is certainly a name that is respected in league circles in the NFL,” Russini said.” Ownership is obviously very interested in what he could bring back to the NFL.”
Many believe Harbaugh’s job with the Wolverines is in serious jeopardy because of the two suspensions handed down to him earlier this year. He was suspended for the Wolverines’ first three games because of recruiting violations and then for the club’s final three regular season contests because of the alleged sign-stealing scandal.
Even if the Wolverines are keen on retaining Harbaugh, the 59-year-old may find it tough to pass on another NFL opportunity. The former NFL quarterback began his professional career with the Bears in 1987, and he played there until 1993.
Harbaugh’s first NFL head coaching stint started back in 2011 with the San Francisco 49ers. He led the team to three straight NFC Championship Games to begin his tenure as well as a trip to Super Bowl 47, where they lost to the Baltimore Ravens.

Harbaugh and the 49ers parted ways after a disappointing 2014 season, though it was widely reported that he was ousted by GM Trent Baalke after losing a power struggle.
The undefeated Wolverines will meet the Iowa Hawkeyes in Saturday’s Big Ten Championship Game at the Indianapolis Colts’ home venue of Lucas Oil Stadium.
