A massive trade proposal has a quarterback-needy NFC team trading up into the No. 4 spot via the Arizona Cardinals to select North Carolina star Drake Maye.
Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye and JJ McCarthy are the top-four quarterback prospects in this year’s class. Williams is a safe bet to go first overall to the Chicago Bears, while the Washington Commanders are sure to take a QB themselves at No. 2.
The New England will likely take a quarterback with the third overall selection as well. The Arizona Cardinals hold the No. 4 pick but promise to receive plenty of big-time offers for that selection, meaning another team could pounce on the opportunity to move up and take a quarterback there.
In his latest first round mock draft, Eric Edholm of NFL.com has the Cardinals dealing the No. 4 pick to the Minnesota Vikings.
In Edholm’s trade projection, the Vikings would then get their quarterback of the future in Drake Maye at No. 4 overall, with Arizona receiving Minny’s pair of 2024 first-round picks (No. 11 and No. 23 overall):
“Adding a second first-rounder via trade was key for the Vikings, providing Minnesota with the currency to entice an Arizona team that is very much open for business, given that Monti Ossenfort and Co. have several needs to fill. The Vikes can still upgrade the offensive line, defense and wide receiver later in the draft, but in Round 1, they pounce on Maye, who might have the most upside of the entire QB bunch.”

Edholm has Arizona trading up into the No. 8 spot via the Atlanta Falcons to get Washington wideout Rome Odunze, while the NFC South club lands Dallas Turner at No. 11. With the No. 23 pick from Minny in this exercise, Edholm projects that they take Iowa corner Cooper DeJean.
Minnesota lost starting quarterback Kirk Cousins to the Falcons in free agency. They signed 2018 third overall pick Sam Darnold to a one-year deal as free agency, but only time will tell if they manage to make a big splash come draft day for their new long-term QB.
Drake Maye Would Do Wonders In Minnesota
Drake Maye would enter a great situation in Minnesota if he were to be drafted by the NFC North organization. He’d be throwing to the league’s best wide receiver in Justin Jefferson, standout tight end TJ Hockenson and rising star WR Jordan Addison.
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell is one of the best offensive minds in the game. Simply put, there aren’t many possible landing spots for Maye than Minnesota.
