A prominent NFL insider has floated a top NFC team as a potential landing spot for ex-New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
Last month, Belichick and Patriots owner Robert Kraft announced that they were parting ways after 24 years together. The Patriots finished 4-13, marking the franchise’s worst record since the 1992 club that went 2-14.
All NFL head coaching vacancies have been filled, so it looks like Belichick will take a year off before exploring new HC opportunities next year.
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio opined that seven teams could be in the mix on Belichick next year, including the reigning NFC South champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
“Teams to watch include (in my own assessment) the Bills, Browns, Jaguars, Giants, Eagles, Vikings, and Buccaneers.”
The Buccaneers would have likely made a coaching change if they missed the playoffs this year, but second-year HC Todd Bowles guided the Bucs to a third straight division crown following the retirement of Tom Brady.

Things would have to go sideways quickly for the Buccaneers to decide to move on from Bowles, who was also the defensive coordinator for the team that won Super Bowl 55 three years ago.
If the Bucs do begin to fall apart next year, then of course the Glazer family could look at bringing in a big name like Belichick. For what it’s worth, Tampa GM Jason Licht previously worked in the Patriots’ front office with Belichick as a scout and director/assistant director of player personnel.
