Los Angeles Chargers superstar pass-rusher Khalil Mack is one of the top names to follow on the trade market between now and the start of training camp.
There were rumors that Khalil Mack would be released in a cap-saving move, but the Chargers instead brought back the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year on a reworked contract. While Mack was retained, the team traded superstar wide receiver Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears and released fellow WR Mike Williams in a cap-saving move.
Most of the offseason blockbuster trades have already transpired, but several notable veterans like Mack should draw interest from teams that didn’t address certain areas of need at the NFL Draft.
According to OvertheCap.com, Mack’s cap hit for the 2024 season is $25.395 million. Mack’s contract expires next season, so the Bolts would be wise to trade him now to ensure they receive the best possible return.
Perhaps no team could use Mack more than the Atlanta Falcons, a club that hasn’t had a player hit double-digit sacks in a season since 2016, when Vic Beasley hit the feat.

Atlanta signed former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins to a four-year deal worth $180 million in free agency, a clear indicator that the team is trying to win now. If they can get one more elite pass-rusher to bolster the defense, Atlanta will have put themselves that much closer to snapping a seven-year playoff drought.
What Falcons Should Offer Chargers For Khalil Mack
With Mack now in his mid-30s and entering the final year of his contract, the Chargers should know that they aren’t getting anything close to what they gave up for the Chicago Bears two years ago (a 2022 second-round pick and a 2023 sixth-rounder).
The Falcons should offer the Chargers a conditional 2025 fourth-round draft pick (a selection that becomes a third if Atlanta makes the postseason) and a fifth-round selection. That feels like a fair price for an ageing veteran who still managed a career-high 17 sacks a year ago.
