Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Khalil Mack remains an intriguing name to follow in the trade rumor mill as the official 2024 league year draws closer.
Mack has been mentioned as both a trade candidate and a possible cap casualty, as the Chargers would save a whopping $23.25 million if they cut him before June 1st, according to OvertheCap.com.
Of course, the ideal scenario is that the Chargers find a taker for Mack and get something in compensation. And a fascinating trade proposal has a top NFC club making a splash for the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year.
Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon proposed a trade scenario in which the Chargers keep Mack in La La Land by dealing him to the Los Angeles Rams for their 2024 third-round pick (previously 100th overall, now 98th after being granted a compensatory pick):
“Despite the overall youth on the Los Angeles Rams, they notched 10 wins and made the playoffs. The defense was basically average, but that was quite a bit better than expected.
The immediate impacts of rookie pass-rushers Byron Young and Kobie Turner—they posted nine and eight sacks, respectively—played a key role in L.A.’s surprise ascent. But the Rams didn’t have a whole lot of edge-rushing depth behind Young and Michael Hoecht.
Khalil Mack could provide that solution.”

Last time the Rams paired a future Hall of Famer with superstar defensive tackle Aaron Donald? 2021, when they acquired Von Miller via trade with the Denver Broncos. And the Miller-Donald tandem, of course, led the Rams to a Super Bowl 56 championship.
Mack tallied a career-best 17 sacks last season to go along with five forced fumbles and 10 pass defenses. He still has plenty of good football left, and a Donald-Mack tandem could help the Rams go from borderline playoff team to a legitimate challenger for the NFC crown.
