A top Buccaneers’ rival has emerged as the favorites to land Baker Mayfield if he ends up not re-signing with Tampa Bay.
According to BetOnline, the Atlanta Falcons are the +400 betting favorites to land Mayfield if he ends up leaving the Buccaneers. The Seattle Seahawks have the second-best odds at +500, followed by the Chicago Bears (+700) and Denver Broncos (+800).
Following a disappointing 2022 season split with the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams, Mayfield signed a cheap one-year deal with the cap-strapped Bucs, who had just lost Tom Brady to retirement.
The first overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft turned in the best season of his career, completing 64.3 percent of pass attempts for 4,044 yards, 28 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Mayfield led the Bucs to the NFC South division crown, as well as an upset over the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card Round.
Mayfield and the Bucs gave the Detroit Lions a scare in the Divisional Round, but Dan Campbell’s squad held on for a tight 31-23 victory to reach the NFC Championship Game. Nonetheless, it was a remarkable bounce-back year for Mayfield, who set himself up for a nice payday this offseason.
The Falcons are expected to add a new starting QB following lackluster performances by the Desmond Ridder-Taylor Heinicke tandem. So Mayfield does make sense for Atlanta if he does end up hitting the open market.
