An NFC team has emerged as the favorite to draft former Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy following the exit of a veteran QB.
The Minnesota Vikings lost starter Kirk Cousins to free agency this week, with the 35-year-old agreeing to a four-year, $180 million deal with the Atlanta Falcons. The move is expected to impact McCarthy as it could play a role in deciding where he ends up.
A rookie signal-caller is likely high on the priority list for the Vikings, but they probably won’t have a free run at the likes of Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, or Jayden Daniels as they’re picking at No. 11.
It’s believed that they could go for McCarthy, who is coming off a National Title-winning campaign with the Wolverines.
Since Cousins’ exit, the Vikings are +150 favorites to draft McCarthy on DraftKings. They were already favored at +300 prior to the move.

The New York Giants and Denver Broncos are behind the Vikings at +350 each, with the New England Patriots at +550. The Falcons are +700 to take McCarthy as a backup to Cousins.
McCarthy was part of a run-heavy offense under Jim Harbaugh and completed 10 of only 18 passes for 140 yards in Michigan’s win over the Washington Huskies. However, he’s been compared to Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow as a certain scout has tipped him to be just as good in a passing offense.
