There are three options for Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady in 2023: Re-sign, leave to play elsewhere or retire. And nobody, except Brady himself, seems to have any idea as to what he’ll do.
The 45-year-old announced his retirement on Feb. 1, only to announce 40 days later that he was coming back for a 23rd season. Brady, who signed a one-year contract extension with the Bucs after their Super Bowl 55 championship season, has the option to test free agency in 2023 if he so desires.
If Brady decides to leave the Buccaneers, he’ll be the biggest name to hit the 2023 free agent market. And if it comes to that? FOX Sports’ Colin Cowherd proposed an interesting landing spot for the future Hall of Famer.
During the latest edition of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, the veteran sports journalist suggested that Brady is simply “tired of Tampa Bay”, citing the many episodes of anger and frustration on the Bucs’ sidelines.
Not only that, but Cowherd brought up the possibility of Brady joining his childhood team in the San Francisco 49ers.
“You can’t help but watch Brady last night and think about the San Francisco 49ers next season,” Cowherd stated.

The 49ers entered this season with 2021 first-round pick Trey Lance as the starting quarterback, but a fractured ankle unfortunately ended his season in Week 2. The 49ers then turned to previous starter Jimmy Garoppolo, who suffered a foot injury in Sunday’s win over the Miami Dolphins.
It was initially reported that Garoppolo would be out for the season, but there is now hope that he’ll return at some point in the playoffs, should the 49ers get that far. Like Brady, Garoppolo is slated to enter 2023 free agency.
Shanahan and the 49ers gave up a plethora of draft capital so they could move up and take Lance third overall in 2023. But if Brady decides to test free agency again, will the 49ers be able to pass up on the opportunity to land the ageless wonder? Only time will tell.
