Denver Broncos star wide receiver Courtland Sutton has been widely mentioned in trade rumors over the last two years, but GM George Paton hasn’t received an offer for his liking.
Courtland Sutton has been the Broncos’ best offensive playmaker since he entered the league in 2018. The 29-year-old has exceeded 700 receiving yards five times, and he’s well on his way to hitting that mark again this year (29 catches for 377 yards and two touchdowns).
Sutton is under contract through the 2025 season, so the Broncos have plenty of time to make a decision on his future in Mile High City. According to Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda, the belief is that Sutton has “a 50/50 chance” of being traded before the deadline.
The 5-3 Broncos would need a good offer to part with their top wide receiver. If there’s one Super Bowl contender who should be aggressive in their pursuit of Courtland Sutton, it’s the banged-up San Francisco 49ers.
Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers are off to a sluggish 4-4 start, largely because of injuries to key offensive players. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is done for the year (torn ACL), and running back Christian McCaffrey has yet to play this season with a calf and Achilles injury.

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is also an injury concern, having missed eight games since 2022. By adding another playmaking wideout like Courtland Sutton, the 49ers would greatly bolster their offense and enhance their chances of winning Super Bowl 59.
What 49ers Should Offer Broncos For Courtland Sutton
The 49ers should go all-in and offer the Broncos one of their 2025 third-round picks for Courtland Sutton. Remember, they gave up third and fourth-round picks to Denver in 2019 for a 32-year-old Emmanuel Sanders.
San Francisco was granted an additional 2025 third-round pick as part of the Rooney Rule when the Houston Texans hired former 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans as their new head coach in 2023.
An offense of Sutton, McCaffrey, Samuel, Brock Purdy, George Kittle, Jauan Jennings and Jordan Mason would be borderline unstoppable, even without Aiyuk. And Sutton could be the final piece to help the 49ers get over the championship hump once and for all.
