An up-and-coming NFC contender is apparently a club to monitor in the Tee Higgins free agent sweepstakes.
Higgins and the Cincinnati Bengals failed to reach an agreement on a new contract heading into the 2023 season, the last of his rookie deal. Considering how budget-conscious the Bengals tend to be under owner Mike Brown, it feels likely that Higgins will enter the open market for the first time in his career.
Speaking to Evan Massey of NFL Analysis Network, a former NFL executive stated that the Green Bay Packers seem ready to make a big move in free agency, even floating Higgins’ name as a potential target:
“I think Green Bay is a fun one to keep an eye on. With Jordan Love, they have their guy, and they’re going to do everything in their power to put the pieces around him. They’re very happy with their wide receivers, but I actually think they’re strongly considering swinging big on a guy like Tee Higgins.”
The Packers have a nice set of young pass-catchers around Jordan Love in Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft. But they could use a proven superstar like Higgins, who has two 1,000-yard seasons and 24 career touchdowns under his belt.
Green Bay rarely spends big dollars in free agency, but they have the cap room to add another dynamic playmaker or two around Love. So why not see if they can land a guy like Higgins to an already potent offense?
