A blockbuster trade proposal has the Los Angeles Chargers trading superstar edge rusher Joey Bosa to a top NFC heavyweight.
The Chargers haven’t at all indicated they’re shopping Bosa, but one can’t help but wonder if the new front office and Jim Harbaugh-led coaching staff will look to shake up a core that has a reputation for constantly underachieving.
Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay proposed an intriguing trade idea that has the Chargers trading their four-time Pro bowl defensive end to the Detroit Lions in exchange for the No. 29 pick in April’s NFL Draft:
“Joey Bosa would be the perfect target for Detroit. He’s not only an elite pass-rusher who has racked up a commendable 67 sacks across his first 93 career games, but he’s also a tough, hard-working talent who would be an ideal cultural fit among the gritty group head coach Dan Campbell has assembled.
The 28-year-old may have struggled with injury in recent seasons—he’s missed 19 games over the last two years—but he’s remained highly effective when available. He notched 20 tackles, 15 pressures, eight quarterback hits, 6.5 sacks and six tackles for a loss in the nine games he was able to suit up for in 2023.”
2022 second overall pick Aidan Hutchinson recorded a team-leading 11.5 sacks in 2023, but Alim McNeill (five sacks) was a distant second on the NFC runner-ups. Clearly, the Lions need to upgrade the defensive line and provide Hutchinson with more support.
With 67 sacks and 15 forced fumbles in 93 career games, there’s no questioning that Bosa is one of the game’s best game-changing defensive players when healthy. If he is available on the trade market, the Lions should definitely consider adding Bosa to their Super Bowl quest.
