A new favorite to be the next NFL head coach fired has emerged.
Three weeks ago, Josh McDaniels of the Las Vegas Raiders became the first NFL coach to get fired this season. According to BetOnline (via ML Football), Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley is now the favorite to be the next HC fired:
Staley helped the Chargers to consecutive winning seasons in 2021 and 2022 to begin his tenure with the team. However, last year’s regular season success was overshadowed by the awful Wild Card Round collapse to the Jacksonville Jaguars, in which they blew a 27-point lead.
The Chargers have underachieved this season, having dropped six of their first 10. Staley, a defensive-minded coach, has been widely criticized for fielding a mediocre defensive unit despite all-world talents like Joey Bosa, Khalil Mack and Derwin James Jr.
Staley has compiled a 23-21-0 record as head coach of the Chargers. They host the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football in Week 12.
