Former NFL defensive back Vontae Davis, who played for the Dolphins, Bills, and Colts, was found dead in his Broward County home on April 1st, 2024. Rumors and speculation have been running high as details about his untimely passing have been slow to come out.
After details of the 911 call were released by TMZ on April 2nd by Broward County Police –revealing the caller found him unresponsive in his home gym area – many, including Vontae’s brother Vernon Davis, suspected that this was a sauna-related incident.
In the audio, the 911 caller was instructed to find and use a defibrillator on Davis, however, it’s unclear whether or not they did so.
TMZ also reported that further audio was obtained from 911, in which a person claiming to be Vontae Davis’ trainer told the operator that he had last seen the former NFL corner on Friday. The trainer also said that someone else he knows told him Davis alive on Saturday. Davis’ body was discovered two days later, on Monday.

Former NFL punter and current talk show host, Pat McAfee reacted to the news stating “Vontae was an incredibly cool dude, good guy, nice guy, upbeat guy, energetic guy” during his show on April 1st with fellow former teammate Darius Butler who also weighed in on Davis’ passing.
Butler added, “I’ll always remember him.” Colts owner Jim Irsay also weighed in on Davis’ tragic passing stating that he was “Extremely saddened to hear of Davis’ passing” and sent out his condolences via X after hearing of the news.
