Buffalo Bills fans will be able to enjoy some early booze while their team plays the Jacksonville Jaguars all the way in London this coming weekend.
Given the time difference, kickoff is set for 9:30 a.m., which would usually pose a problem for bar patrons. However, New York Governor Kathy Hochul has decided to be accommodating and is extending the time restaurants and bar owners will have to get special permits.
Such establishments will have until Friday to request dispensation, which is past the initial deadline. And alcohol will be available for purchase as early as 8:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
“With the Buffalo Bills playing across the pond on Sunday morning, I know fans will be gathering for the big game & may fancy a pint. I’m directing the State Liquor Authority to extend the deadline for special permits, so sports bars & restaurants can serve as early as 8 a.m,” Hochul wrote on X this week.
The Governor has been a huge Bills fan and has her roots in Buffalo. She was instrumental in getting an $850 million taxpayer investment for the team’s new stadium.
This latest move, though, should gain her at least a few more supporters.
