Denzel Mims is likely to never eat salmon ever again.
The New York Jets WR spent a large portion of the offseason vomiting and losing weight amid a violent battle with food poisoning.
The 23-year-old second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft informed reporters this week he believes it all started after he ate some bad salmon. Food poisoning from a bad piece of fish “took a big toll” that caused him to lose 20 pounds — from 217 to 197 — and miss the majority of spring practices.
“I’m getting a lot more comfortable,” Mims said. “I’ve got a lot of catching up to do, but I know the system and I know what they want.”
Mims hasn’t eaten any salmon since.
“It set me back a lot because guys were practicing every day and I was dealing with an illness,” Mims said. “I’m trying to do everything I can to make sure I bounce back so come Week 1 I’m ready to go.”

Mims says he’s working hard to bring himself up to the highest level possible.
“That’s what I want. That’s something I choose to do,” Mims said of getting in extra work at practice. “You don’t have to catch extra balls, they don’t force you to catch extra balls, but I want to catch extra balls. I want to get extra time with the QBs, with the coaches, so that I can be ready.”
