To say that the New York Jets’ quarterback situation has been a mess in 2023 would be a major understatement.
From the moment Aaron Rodgers went down with a torn achilles during the team’s very first offensive drive in week one, it has been an utter disaster under center for Gang Green. There was hope that 2021 second-overall pick Zach Wilson would be able to step up in his third season under the guidance of A-Rod, but that wasn’t the case.
Eventually, Wilson was benched by the team in favor of backup Tim Boyle. But that turned out to be an even bigger disaster — so much so, that the Jets are now turning back to Zach Wilson.
However, even the move back to Wilson hasn’t been without it’s fair share of drama, as it was reported that the 24-year-old signal-caller was hesitate to take back the starting role.
Rumors began to circulate that Wilson feared getting injured behind the Jets’ woeful offensive line, but new reports have shed more light on his reluctance to get back under center.
According to a new story from Deseret News, Jets head coach Robert Saleh had informed Wilson that he would be traded in the offseason following his latest benching.

Sources close to the situation confirmed to the Deseret News that the Jets have told Zach Wilson he will be traded after the season. Wilson and coach Robert Saleh agreed to a mutual parting following the benching — again — of Wilson and before the team decided to return him to the starting position Sunday.
If this report is true, it certainly makes sense why Wilson would be unenthusiastic about the opportunity to take back the starting job in New York — seeing as how the team has already made it clear that they’re ready to move on from him.
Despite all of this, Wilson will still be reinserted as the starter for today’s game against the Houston Texans. With a 4-8 record and only five games remaining, the Jets’ playoff hopes are officially out the window. However, with a few good showings, perhaps Wilson can raise his trade value and prove to the other 31 NFL teams that he deserves a second chance in a new setting.
