The New York Jets made another notable roster move following their frustrating loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
On Monday, the New York Jets announced that they have released running back Israel Abanikanda. In a corresponding move, they have promoted fellow RB Kene Nwangwu to the active roster from the practice squad.
After a stellar career at Pittsburgh, Abanikanda was drafted in the fifth round (143rd overall) by the Jets in 2023. He appeared in six games last season, finishing with 70 rushing yards, seven receptions and 43 yards.

Additionally, we have released Israel Abanikanda.
Abanikanda earned 2022 First-team All-American and First-team All-ACC honors, leading the ACC with 1,431 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns. He finished with 21 TDs from scrimmage, also tops in the conference.
The New York Jets (3-9) clinched another losing season following their sloppy home loss to the Seahawks. The ground game has been a key reason behind their struggles, with star RB Breece Hall tallying just 692 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

Sunday’s loss also ensures that the Jets will finish with a losing season for the ninth straight year. They’re poised to miss out on the postseason for the 14th straight year, the longest active drought in football.
