In a stunning move, the New York Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh just two days after a close Week 5 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London.
The 45-year-old Robert Saleh was in his fourth season as the head coach of the Jets. Expectations were high coming into this season with four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers back in action, but it took just five games for owner Woody Johnson to make a rare in-season coaching change.
Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, who joined Saleh’s staff with the Jets in 2021, was named the interim head coach. The Jets will try to get back to .500 when they host the Buffalo Bills next Monday.
Stephen Fernane shared a bizarre story about Saleh being spotted in public following the team’s loss to the Vikings. According to Fernane, Saleh was going through London’s Stansted Airport and was “a frosty distance” away from general manager Joe Douglas.
Fernane wrote that the fourth-year head coach appeared “down” and “pissed off” as he made his way through the airport.

There is speculation that Rodgers played a hand in Robert Saleh’s firing, but the future Hall of Famer denied the accusations during his appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” today.
The Jets’ two victories came against the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots, who have a combined 2-7 record. They haven’t resembled a Super Bowl contender whatsoever, and only time will tell if the coaching change pays off for Rodgers and company.
Robert Saleh Wasn’t The Problem For The Jets
It’s simply unfair to put all of the Jets problems on the head coach. He’s not the owner of a team that last made the postseason in 2010 (the longest active NFL drought). He’s not the owner who recycles through GMs, coaches and QBS on a constant basis.
Saleh isn’t the one who threw three careless interceptions in Sunday’s loss to the Vikings. He’s not the one who put together an atrocious offensive line, and he’s not the one who catered entirely to Rodgers (Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard, Nathaniel Hackett).
