With Aaron Rodgers’ season over with a torn Achilles, the Jets are in desperate need of a veteran quarterback to back up Zach Wilson or even take over.
How desperate are they? Dianna Russini reports that the Jets have begun reaching out to available free-agent quarterbacks since the news of Rodgers’ season-ending Achilles tear dropped.
The team has reportedly reached out to two Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks who won them on the same team. Those quarterbacks are Carson Wentz and Nick Foles.
Wentz is a former first-round pick of the Eagles back in 2016. Wentz lasted just one year with the Colts before he was traded to the Commanders last year. Washington opted to release Wentz. Last season, he passed for 1,755 yards, 11 touchdowns, and nine interceptions to go along with 86 yards rushing and a touchdown.
While Wentz stumbled in Washington last year, he’d provide an upgrade over Wilson if he played close to his career 89.3 quarterback rating.
Foles is a former third-round pick of the Eagles back in 2012. Chicago released him earlier last year and he later signed on with the Colts, who released him this offseason.

Foles made two underwhelming starts for the Colts after they benched Ryan late last year. He’s started 19 games in five years since filling in for an injured Wentz and leading the Eagles to a championship.
The Jets plan to move forward with Zach Wilson as their starter, but it would not be surprising to see them sign a quarterback at some point.
At that point, the Jets might as well also call Phillip Rivers, Andrew Luck, and Ryan Fitzpatrick.
