The New York Jets didn’t imagine they’d have many decisions to make at the quarterback position after signing Aaron Rodgers earlier this year. But an untimely injury on the veteran’s debut has left them left them scratching their heads for most of the season.
According to The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt and Dianna Russini, the Jets are considering yet another switch at QB as they are looking to make Zach Wilson their starter again. There’s one problem, however: Wilson does not want to return to the starting position.
“The New York Jets are prepared to make another switch at quarterback — but their top choice is reluctant to take on the job,” Rosenblatt and Russini report. “The team is leaning toward turning back to Zach Wilson to start but he is hesitant to step back into the role, multiple team sources said Monday.”
The team hasn’t made a final decision on who will start against the Houston Texans this coming Sunday but is hoping Wilson changes his mind.
Wilson had been benched in favor of Tim Boyle, who started in their Black Friday affair against the Miami Dolphins. Boyle then found himself benched for the second half against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, with Trevor Siemian taking over.
With none of their backups able to make a difference, the Jets are now ready to turn back to Wilson. But it appears the kid is getting tired of the roller-coaster ride in New York.
