The New York Jets have been named in a lawsuit for something they had no involvement in.
While the Jets were far away from the incident in question (sort of), one of their players was at the forefront. Cornerback Brandin Echols is being sued for a car accident that occurred outside of the team’s facility in Florham Park, New Jersey, in 2022, and the team is being held liable along with him.
According to the lawsuit (via NJ.com), Echols lost control of his car and hit the complainant’s vehicle, which resulted in it being “catapulted into the air, striking and going over the guardrail, overturning, and landing upside down in a marshy area.”
The New York Jets have been included in the suit as the plaintiff states the organization failed to do due diligence and “conduct the proper motor vehicle, criminal history, or reference checks” on their player.
Echols is known to have a history of reckless driving.

Echols was drafted by the Jets in 2021, having played his college football for Mississippi Community College and the University of Kentucky.
He has made 41 appearances for the team, making 75 total tackles (58 solo), 13 pass breakups, three interceptions, and two touchdowns.
New Jersey Transport Named In Suit Along With New York Jets
Per the suit, the CB was arrested and charged with multiple violations, including speeding and reckless driving.
“Police arrived after the crash to find Echols’ black 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat disabled in the eastbound lanes of the turnpike, and Gilberg’s black BMW X5 on its roof in a marsh about 50 feet from the roadway,” it reads.
“Gilberg was seriously injured, hospitalized, and continues to require medical care and treatment, according to the suit.”
The New Jersey Department of Transportation was also named in the suit for being “negligent in the design and installment of curbs and guardrails along the crash site.”
