The Las Vegas Raiders are trading tight end Darren Waller to the New York Giants after making a major acquisition at wide receiver on Tuesday.
The Giants, who are keen on upgrading their receiving unit this offseason, are acquiring Waller in exchange for the No. 100 overall pick, according to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
The pick in question was the third-round compensatory pick the Giants got from the Chiefs when they traded for Kadarius Toney. NY has managed to get a formidable TE for it, having reportedly gone off on a search for players to deploy in the position.
Waller agreed to an extension with the Raiders less than a year ago but is on his way out. The Packers made an offer for the player at last year’s deadline but the Raiders did not allow him to leave. Having agreed a deal to sign free agent WR Jakobi Meyers this Tuesday, however, they’re moving his $17 million-a-year contract on to the Giants.
