New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley is heading into free agency this offseason, having agreed to play for the NFC East outfit for another season after a lengthy contract standoff last year.
According to ESPN, the Giants are unlikely to franchise tag the two-time Pro Bowler and he will be allowed to hit the open market.
Given his status as one of the best RBs in the NFL, Barkley should have no shortage of suitors. The Los Angeles Chargers are expected to be among the teams pursuing Barkley once he becomes available as new head coach Jim Harbaugh is said to be very keen on working with him.
Harbaugh replaced Brandon Staley as the Chargers HC last month after leading the Michigan Wolverines to a National Title on New Year’s Day. His arrival should turn things around in L.A, and Barkley could be key to the revolution as former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf has said he is at the top of Harbaugh’s list.
The player was asked about a possible move to the Chargers on the ‘Up & Adams Show’ this week and seemed to be open to it.

“But hey, if that opportunity was able to present itself, I definitely would not be against it,” he said.
It appears Harbaugh will have his man as long as he makes a move.
